Fringe benefits + life update

New season, new beginnings, right? I've taken this quite literally and 'invested' (read: splurged) on a load of new garms for Autumn, including these fab fringed jeans and Vans trainers. I love the way the fringing jazzes up an otherwise pretty plain outfit and the Vans have not rubbed my feet once since I got them - weird to say but most shoes I buy will give me at least a couple of small blisters on the first few wears, so Vans, kudos to you.

For me this time of year feels more like the time for a 'fresh start' than January. I'm not sure if it's because it reminds me of a new school year, or the way the change in the seasons seems so extreme, but I'm both nervous and excited for some upcoming change in my life. For a while now I've been reassessing what direction I'd like to go in work-wise; I currently work in events for a medical organisation and I've learnt a hell of a lot in the year I've worked there. However, with all the opportunities and enjoyment that blogging has brought me, I thought that maybe what I really want to be doing with my life is something that allows me to work in fashion, and perhaps even to write about it.

I think this has always been in the back of my mind, but for some silly reason I thought I couldn't do it in case someone might tell me I can't. Maybe I will give it a go and totally fail, but as they say, you'll never know until you try.

As most of you will know, the industry is notoriously hard to get into and you have to effectively work for free for a long time until someone gives you a break. Having worked on a salary for a couple of years and starting out at the bottom at the age of 23, this is a scary prospect. Someone once told me 'what could we achieve if we weren't afraid?', which really resonated with me. It's kinda cheesy, but I think sometimes you have to take a leap for something you think will fulfil you in the long run, as daunting as that seems.

I'm really chuffed to say I'll be starting a three month internship at an amazing fashion PR agency at the end of October - I'm hoping this will give me the kick start and the experience I need to start pursuing more internships/work exp/jobs at more companies I admire. I'll almost certainly be documenting my experiences along the way, so keep an eye out for those! I'd also love to hear if any of you are interning/have interned and have any tips for me!
